Rendezvous with ‘Water man of India’ – Rajendra Singh

Ecowarriors of Class X from our school had an active interaction with the popular water conservationist who has been instrumental in reviving major rivers of India and transforming the green cover of several parts in Rajasthan in a knowledge summit organised in a school on August 21, 2019.  This has ignited a sense of passion in our Eco Warriors to get committed towards spreading awareness amongst all the stake holders to conserve our natural resources.

    The much awaited 2nd Prize Distribution Ceremony of the Session (2018-19) was held on 17 August 2019. Mr. Jos Smeets, Chairman Global Exploration, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. A green welcome was accorded to the Chief Guest and all the esteemed guests. The event commenced with lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest along with the soulful chanting of Vedic mantras. This was followed by the Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura’s address to the august gathering. The felicitation ceremony was held in two segments in which academic scholars and achievers of co-curricular activities were awarded.

    An inspirational ballad, `Safalta Ke Sopan` showcasing humble beginnings of great leaders enthused the audience. The school Chairman, Shri Rajpal, esteemed member of the Management Committee, Shri Sunil Goel and the Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura felicitated the proud prize winners and their parents. The Chief Guest applauded the young achievers and emphasized upon the broadening of horizons of young students so as to groom them into becoming global citizens in order to make a difference in the world they are to inherit. The event culminated with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Manisha Sharma, The Vice Principal, followed by the National Anthem.

      An electrifying Independence Day Assembly was conducted by the EVS
      department, Primary Wing, on 13th August 2019. The celebrations stirred the emotions of patriotism in the audience as it sparked off with a brilliant poem, highlighting our responsibilities towards our country. This was followed by a stimulating song, a motivating play and geared ahead with a scintillating dance presentation full of josh and vigour. The lively and fascinating compering perked up and energized the environment for the audience to be enjoying it in an exhilarating mode.
      Ms. Anuradha Kumar, HM Primary wing, addressed the students talking about their roles to make our country a better place.

        A training session on ‘First Aid for Mental Health’ was conducted by Jigyasa Tandon, founder, Psy-Fi : For a Healthy Mind , for the students of class VIII on 14 August 2019. The aim was to create mental health awareness along with making them learn skills to provide first aid incase of Mental health crisis.

          In one of the largest Quizzing events of Delhi and NCR , RL Chopra Memorial Quiz held at New Era Public school, Mayapuri on 16th August, 2019 Harivansh Mehta, Kartik Khera and Bharat Singla, all from class VIII bagged the second position. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1500, individual trophies and merit certificates

            It's nature's wonderful balance that water cycle and life cycle run parallely where one can't thrive without the other! 

            As a reminder to the same an assembly was organized on the topic "Water Conservation" by the students of IV-LD recently at VIS. The students brought forth the importance of saving water through a Nukkad Natak, emphasising on the ways to save it for our future generation. 
            The audience was engaged as they bristled with excitement to give their own suggestions on how to conserve water.  
            The assembly culminated with a catchy song and a dance performance, sending out the message of water conservation strongly!

              Laurels All The Way

              Five of our budding debaters attended the Ghaziabad round at Delhi Public School Rajnagar Extension, Morta, and made our school glow with pride by winning various medals and trophies at the event.

              Both of the teams qualified for the National Finals. A team of three students, Anshuman Gill, Hargun Singh Johar and Paridhi Gupta, reached the Finals by conquering 77 teams and emerged as the runners-up team and they were also the highest scoring team at the event.They received a team trophy and individual trophies as well. 

              Kavin Lamba received a participation certificate, Anshuman Gill secured the 25th rank and received a bronze medal, Aditya Tandon secured the 13th position and received a silver medal, Paridhi Gupta secured the 5th rank and received a gold medal and Hargun Singh Johar was the best speaker at the event and received a trophy for the same.

                With their parents in attendance, Class II Daisydale celebrated Independence Day via a Special Assembly on 8th August, 2019. 
                The students were seen in stunning ‘Avataar’ of various freedom fighters, echoing the mantra of Indian Freedom. 
                They also presented a group song on the theme and danced to the tunes of a patriotic song. 
                The parents were exhilarated to see their children convening the assembly with grace, poise and great confidence.

                  To assist  the students to be independent and make positive choices regarding their peer relations, a session on ‘Coping up with Peer Pressure - Assertiveness Skills’ was conducted by Ms. Nilya, Counselling Psychologist for the students of class X on 9 August 2019. The session aimed at helping children understand and recognise the effects of peer pressure and developing their assertiveness skills to overcome temptations.

                    India has made its mark of excellence beyond this world and into the cosmos with the recent touchdown of Chandrayan-II on the moon.
                    At VIS, as the young Indians, the students of class III and IV paid a tribute to ISRO's recent marvellous accomplishment with the medium of books where they celebrated their pride in their country by reading the book "Make of Rocket" that entailed the timeline of space-shuttles that shook the world. 
                    Children's enthused participation in forms of quiz, patriotic poems, models of Chandrayan-II, informative posters and presentations spread tricolour hues of joy.

                      Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene & Management

                      An interactive and enlightening training session was conducted by Mr. Manish Sharma , Founder Milestone NGO on the topic ‘Menstrual Hygiene and Management’ with the senior wing girls on 9 August 2019. The aim was to empower them to create awareness about the same among rural women and break the stigma associated with Menstrual cycle and Hygiene.

                        Enactment of Freedom Fighters

                        “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”

                        Students of Class –III reverberated the sentiments of patriotism by participating in the ‘Enactmentof Freedom Fighters’ Competition held on 8th August 2019.

                        The Children portrayed the roles of freedom fighters like Gandhiji, Subash Chandra Bose, Rani Lakshmibai, Udham Singh, Captain Lakshmi Sehgal etc. with costumes and props highlighting their contribution and sacrifice in the freedom struggle of our nation.

                        They paid a rich tribute to the martyrs with great zeal and enthusiasm evoking feelings of patriotism and pride in the hearts of the audience

                          A session on the topic ‘Brain Gym’ was conducted by Mr. Gagandeep Arora for the students of class XI on 08.08.2019.  It aimed at enhancing mental stamina and academic excellence through various strategies like - visualisation, association, chunking etc. It was a motivational session to help them discover their inner potential and develop a positive attitude towards life. It was an enriching experience for all.

                            A session on ‘Career Opportunities in India & Abroad’ was conducted for the commerce and humanities students of classes XI & XII by Mr. Nakul Shairwal, Head Career Counsellor, Edumentor on 9 August 2019. The aim was to create awareness among the children to focus on top universities and colleges and choosing right courses based on their interest and aptitude. It was a very informative session and helped the students to map their career and focus towards the right direction.

                              Commerce students of class XII along with Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Shivani visited the Parle G Factory in Bahadurgarh on 7 August 2019. The students saw the manufacturing unit, where they got to know about various processes like kneading, mixing, shaping, baking, cooling to the final stage of packing . It  was very interactive and a great learning experience. They learnt about various concepts related to production and operations within a manufacturing plant. Through such field trips, we hope to cultivate practical learners by fueling their innate curiosity and encouraging them to understand in a hands-on way.

The Psychology students of VIS participated with lot of enthusiasm on 7 August 2019. Psych-Ed aims to make psychology relevant and fun, as it provides students a novel opportunity to further their understanding beyond the textbooks and enhance their perspective of psychology as it applies to everyday life.

                                    Workshop on Food Adulteration

                                    The chain of food starts from clean production and ends with clean consumption. Various harmful chemicals and bad practices have made way in this chain. This has direct impact on health of environment and all living beings. Team “BhoomiKa” conducted an awareness programme about ‘Safe and Unsafe Food’ for  middle and senior wing students on 6 August  2019. The children were educated about various ways to detect adulteration in food. Nutritionist, Ms. Roopali emphasised on the  role of food in controlling diseases faced by adults and children due to changing food habits and lifestyles. The participants also received Millet cookies at the end of the session.

                                            On 1 August 2019, a delegation from Coenecoop College from Netherlands comprising teachers and students visited Venkateshwar International School, Sector-10, Dwarka under the ‘Global Exploration Programme.’ The eventful day began with a sonorous Prayer followed by the welcome address given by the Honourable Director and Founder Principal, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura and Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma who shed light on the ever strengthening bond between the Global Exploration team members of both the schools. 

                                            An awe-inpiring presentation showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage left the audience spell bound.  The cultural programme comprised ‘Kathak’, electrifying ‘Punjabi Folk dance’ and Ballet.  The delegates also had a brain storming session with Class XI students on the economy of both countries.  They also got an opportunity to see various Indian instruments and learn Indian instrumental music.  Later, they also attended concluding session of yoga and meditation.  The programme culminated with an enriching interaction between the students and Honourable Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura.
