Venkateshwar International School has had a long standing tradition of preservation of culture, heritage and flora and fauna. In order to sensitize students towards the need to preserve our environment and ecology, tree plantation drives are organised in the School from time to time. One such drive was held on 22 July 2019, during which saplings of medicinal plants were planted in the Herbal garden in the school premises. The students planted numerous trees likeTulsi,AloeVera,Carom(Ajwain),Gooseberry(Amla), Neem etc.,which are elemental to the ecology.

    School Students and Eco Club Day

    To sensitise students regarding their responsibilities towards greener environment, a tree plantation drive was organised by the Eco-Club of our school on 15 July 2019 on 'School Students and Eco Club Day'.  As per the directions received from the DOE for the students of classes VI to VIII various activities were organised.

    The plantation drive was organised under the patronage and guidance of HM Midddle Wing, Ms. Nishu Pandey. Students brought different types of saplings and planted them in the school campus. The Eco warriors enthusiastically planted more than 80 saplings of Aloe Vera, Mint, Tulsi, Mango, Jamun, Neem, Kachnar, Jasmine, Banyan, Basil.

    The main objective of initiating such drives is to make our students more conscious of the duty the citizens of the world have to save mother earth from further degradation.
    The students of VI to VIII also participated in the poster making competition on save our planet .Certificates of appreciation will be given to the winners.

      Workshop on Art and Calligraphy

      A creative world is a happy one! 

      It’s indeed true that creativity is the biggest stress buster and when it comes to creative writing, it turns out to be incredibly relaxing.  A workshop on Watercolor Art and Calligraphy was conducted by Mr. Pratish and Ms. Isha from George’s Academy of Art on 10.07.2019 for senior wing students. They embraced the beauty and versatility of watercolor through a variety of approaches. Discussions and in-depth demonstrations acquainted the children with basic techniques to engage them to use the medium. The students also learnt varied styles of writing. 

      It was a great learning session for all students.

        My Voice Speaker of the Year

        “If you can speak, you can influence. If you can influence, you can change lives.”

        MV Speaker of the Year Youth Forum’s, mission is to bring the students together to raise their voice against major issues facing us and brainstorm ways to solve them. The orientation session on the theme ‘The Great Indian Fauna’ was conducted for the senior students of VIS on 13.05.2019. The objective of the session was to encourage students to take responsibility of their environment and contribute towards saving the Indian Fauna. The students engaged in a fruitful session of discussion, followed by information about the upcoming rounds of the competition.

          A session on ‘Unconventional Careers’ was conducted by Mr. Vipul Rawat and Mr. Shray Verma for the students of class XII on 12.07.2019. They apprised the students about offbeat careers like watch designing, Robotic surgeons, Chief Happiness Officers etc. and emphasized upon the importance of soft and cross skills required for a successful career. This will surely help the students to paint their career canvas in a much easier way.

            Effective Communication with Parents

            Effective communication builds understanding and trust in a parent child relationship. There are times when children ignore the efforts made by their parents. To help the students form good bond with their parents a workshop on ‘Building relationship and communication with parents’ was conducted by Ms. Anindita and Ms. Ria , Counselling Psychologist , for the students of grade IX on 12.07.2019. They not only reflected upon the casual behaviour of the children towards parents but also made them aware of the three major foundations of a relationship - Trust , appreciation and communication. The session ended with a guided imagery session where students imagined the best times with their parents and felt their love. I was a great and fun session , we all had tears of happiness !

              On 18 July 2019, a delegation from Netherlands visited Venkateshwar International School, Sector-10, Dwarka under the ‘Global Exploration Programme.’ The eventful day began with a sonorous Prayer followed by the welcome address given by the Honourable Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma who shed light on the ever strengthening bond between the Global Exploration team members of both the schools.  An awe-inpiring presentation showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage left the audience spell bound.  The cultural programme comprised ‘Shiv Tandav’ and electrifying ‘Hiphop dance.’  The delegates also had a brain storming session with Class XI students on the economy of both countries.  They also got an opportunity to see various Indian instruments and learn Indian music and Punjabi dance.  The programme culminated with an enriching interaction between the students and Honourable Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura.  After this, the students proceeded for homestay with the host families.

                In an era where we recognise that students with multiple intelligences form our classes, it makes us better equipped facilitators if we're braced with tools to face an array of diverse challenges that lie ahead of us.

                To share her vision on how to manage such deviant behaviour in classrooms, a workshop was conducted by Niliya Dutt, counselling psychologist from Fortis Mental Health care on 6 July, 2019. 

                It was an enriching session that inspired primary and middle wing teachers to not only empathise with their students but also provide more informed help to them and their parents.

                  In align with our senior wing goal , the Peer moderators along with school counsellor conducted sessions with students of grade XI and XII on Environmental Awareness. The aim was to sensitize the students about the presenting environment concerns and ways in which we can work towards sustainability. The students also counted their carbon foot prints so as to be aware of it and brainstorm ways to reduce the same.

                       Information technology took a robust swing as the world stepped into the 21st century. Fields such as computer science, robotics, machinery, communications etc became salient features of the growing world. Innovations and advancement in these disciplines paved the way for a revolutionarised system of international exchanges and businesses.

                      2 students of class XI SD (Spriti Arneja and Vyom Goyal) studying computer science got a precious opportunity to attend summer camp at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi from 20 May - 1 June, 2019. The summer camp was organised by Codechef and aimed at teaching Python programming to students.

                      Each day presented a new topic of discussion for the students. On the first day, the students were warmly welcomed and introduced to the campus, their courses and curriculum. They then moved to the computer lab where they were acquainted with the basics of programming. The following days students got exposure to various programming techniques in Python.

                      Students were given participation certificates and pen drives for mementos. The group was inspired as well as encouraged to apply their new learning to fruitful use and enhance their knowledge in IT through this enriching workshop.

                        It was a proud moment for VIS when Rachit Gupta, Divit Garg and Hardik Beniwal were felicitated in an award ceremony on Sunday, 30 June 2019.  It was organized by the Commerce Teacher Foundation at India International Centre, Lodhi Road.

                        Rachit Gupta brought laurels to the school by receiving 100% in accountancy in Class 12th Board Examination 2019.

                        Divit Garg bagged the 8th rank while Hardik Beniwal held the 9th rank in the International Commerce Olympiad 2018.

                        Ms. Jasmine Anand , PGT Business Studies, Mr. Ravindra Agarwal PGT Accountancy and Ms. Kanika Sareen PGT Entrepreneurship were also felicitated for their contribution in helping the students achieve such a wonderful result.

                          VIS held its Prize Distribution ceremony on 6 July 2019 in the school auditorium. The event was organized to felicitate the achievers of Classes X and XII of the academic year 2018-19. The morning was graced by the presence of Sh. J.K. Yadav, Regional Officer, CBSE Delhi. The function commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony.  The Chief Guest was accompanied by Honourable Chairman, Mr. Rajpal, Member of Management, Sh. Mahavir Goel and Sh. Sunil Goel, Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura and Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma.

                          After a very soulful invocation, the Annual Report was presented by the Director and Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura followed by the first segment of the Prize Distribution felicitating Class XII students.

                          After the first segment of awards, the school dancers presented a foot tapping Hip-hop dance.  The event continued with the next segment awarding the Class X toppers. The award and medals were given away by the dignitaries.  Post the second segment of awards, the audience was left astounded by the theatrical display of talented students titled ‘Safalta ke Sopan’ felicitating achievement and the struggle behind it.  The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma.

                            The school’s second Alumni Meet – VISAA 2019 was held on 29 June 2019 in the school premises. The meet commenced with a green welcome accorded to honourable Director and Founder Principal, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura and the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma.

                             

                            The Director, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, expressed her boundless pleasure on meeting the alumni and shared interesting anecdotes. It was followed by the cultural programme comprising melodious song, synchronized dance performances and rhythmic band presentation by the Alumni.  A high tea was organised to honour the presence of the alumni in their Alma matter.  The memorable evening left everyone brimming with nostalgia.

                              SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

                              The psychology students of class XI and XII attended the Summer Internship  program at various branches of Fortis hospital all over Delhi. 

                              The week long program involved student’s awareness and learning about mental health, psychological disorders and psycho-socio well being of an individual.

                              The internship program comprised of a series of academic classes orienting students to clinical disorders and psychotherapy, techniques of psychological interviewing along with an experiential learning on understanding the self. Students also got the opportunity to be introduced to areas of super-specialization within the field of psychology including Sport Psychology, Psycho-Oncology, Organizational Psychology and Art Therapy. 

                              The children made various projects and also spread awareness through social platforms.

                                VIS student wins accolades!

                                 

                                Gautam Jajoo, of class XII SD, won the Google Code-In contest which was organized by Google over a duration of 2 months from October 2018 to December 2018. He was the winner of this contest along with 53 other people from around the world! He was invited to San Francisco on a fully sponsored trip by Google where he received the Grand prize Winners trophy and other goodies.

                                 

                                He also got the opportunity to observe the workings in Google Office. It was a great learning experience.

                                  VIS bags position in MOS World Championship

                                  The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship presented by Certiport, Inc. is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint (2013 or 2016 versions).

                                  Around 12 VIS students of classes VIII – XII appeared for the online Delhi rounds in various Office products held in the school premises on 16 May 2019. The following got top scores and qualified for India Finals :

                                  ·         Harivansh Mehta – VIII LD

                                  ·         Chinmaya Kapoor – X SD

                                  ·         Harshbir Singh – X SD

                                  ·         Shirish Jaiswal – XII SD

                                  The above students appeared for the India finals on 24 May 2019 in Pune. Chinmaya Kapoor bagged the 10th position in PowerPoint 2013 out of around 200 students!
