Act Prudently, Achieve Victory
The leadership camp is a yearly feature of the VIS calendar in which the students
fight it out the whole day to prove their tenacity and showcase their leadership
skills.
Leadership camp for classes X-XII was held on 27 April 2019. The programme
started with very interesting Ice-Breaking games dividing students into ten groups
namely Charismatic Capricorns, Amicable Aquarians, Punctual Pisceans, Amazing
Aries, Tremendous Taureans, Genuine Geminis, Candid Cancerians, Loyal Leos,
Vivacious Vergos, Lofty Librans.
The various activities in which they took part were – Jigsaw Puzzle, G.K. Quiz,
Vision-creating an E-Magazine on ten UN Sustainable Development Goals,
Savoury Delight and Innovate to Renovate.
The students also presented short skits on various social issues and school
problems along with their solutions. Leadership qualities like Co-operation,
decision making, aesthetic sense, problem solving and prudence were tested
through the different games and activities. The teachers observed the students
on various parameters. The camp ended with a meditation session-refresh your
MBS-Mind, Body and Soul.

Free from Examination Stress

The word EXAMS instills a sense of panic and even terror in all of us ! However we don't have any escape from them! The Examination stress takes a toll on students and their families alike. They often feel anxious, fall sick, suffer from low morale due to the societal pressures. To beat and manage examination anxiety, a session for class XI was conducted by Ms. Anindita Anand, Child & Adolescent Psychologist from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on 30 April 2019. The students participated in various activities to reduce stress which was followed by a brief guided imagery session to motivate them and take examinations positively and as a step towards success and learning. It was indeed a fruitful session for all the students.

    GOOD TOUCH-BAD TOUCH

    In align with our Primary Wing Goal ‘SAFETY FOR ALL CHILDREN’, our school counsellor, Ms Sana Kapur conducted a session on ‘Good Touch - Bad Touch’ for students of  grade III to V on 29. 04. 2019 and 30.04.2019. The children were made aware of different kinds of touches and how they make us feel. The main aim of the session was to equip them with skills to manage unsafe situations. 

    The main areas covered were :

    • You are the boss of your own body
    • Awareness of your body
    • Safe touch, Ouch touch and Private touch
    • Setting boundaries and consent
    • Warning signals
    • Smart ways to keep yourself safe
    • Choosing the safe trusted adults

    It was indeed an interactive session where the students shared their own personal stories followed by giving them strategies on handling these issues.

      Orientation Programme for Parents of Class VI

      Under the able guidance of our Director and Founder Principal, Ms. Mrinalini Kaura, an Orientation Programme was organized for the parents of class VI students, at Venkateshwar International School on Saturday, 27 April 2019.The elaborate and intensive orientation was conducted by Director ma’am that gave the parents an in depth understanding of the curriculum, rules and regulations of middle wing and walked them through the challenges thus posed. The teachers of class VI carried out various fun filled activities simulating the classroom environment through which parents were given an insight into the innovative teaching methodologies, utilized regularly in class. Parents relived their schooldays briefly and enthusiastically participated in the activities. They experienced firsthand the fun in learning by doing.It was a rewarding session for one and all!

        Importance of Mental Health

        Mental Health is integral to live a balanced and healthy life. To sensitize the students, a session on ‘Importance of Mental Health’ was conducted on 29.04.2019 by the team of ‘You’re Wonderful Project’ under the aegis of their School Project For Emotional Acceptance and Knowledge’. The aim was to eradicate the stigma around mental illness and provide an atmosphere for children where they can share their concerns and feel safe. Some of the topics covered were Academic Pressure, Embarrassment, Bullying, Empathy, Acceptance, Examination and social anxiety. At the end, the students were taught various skills to help themselves and others around them. 

        It was indeed an interactive and fruitful session for all the students.

          Workshop by Fortis Mental Healthcare

          A workshop on the theme 'Life is Beautiful’ was conducted by Fortis Mental Healthcare on 26.04.2019 for students of Classes XI & XII with the objective of encouraging children to seek a sense of purpose, find joy in everyday life and build lasting and meaningful relationships. The workshop assisted the students mitigate negative influences in their lives and promote positive mental health.

            The harvest festival of ‘Baisakhi’ was celebrated with gaiety by the students of V Springdale. The premises looked radiant with students adorning colourful traditional outfits and the stage decorated with marigold strings. The students sang a melodious song, explained the importance of the festival and presented a scintillating dance performance which captivated the audience. The assembly culminated with badges for the ‘Most Discipline Child’ being given to the deserving students.

              39 students participated in the Regional Round of The World Scholars Cup, held on 13 and 14 April, 2019 at The Suncity School, Gurgaon. VIS students showcased brilliant performance by bagging 62 gold medals and 96 silver medals as well as 3 trophies with overall second and third ranks in individual and team debate in senior and junior categories respectively and overall first and third position in collaborative writing in junior and senior categories respectively.

                    Senior wing students along with School Counsellor, Ms. Sana Kapur attended a workshop on ‘Caring for the Environment’ conducted by Fortis Mental Healthcare on 18.04.2019. The aim was to sensitize the students to make sustainable life choices and become more empathetic towards their environment . As a part of this workshop, students planted saplings in the hospital premises and were encouraged to adopt a plant in their homes and take care of it. It was indeed a great learning for all the attendees.

                            Walt Disney character Pinocchio said “ When you wish upon a star, it doesn’t matter who you are” as quoted in the book Reignited written by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Mr. Srijan Pal Singh. 

                            A session on Careers in Futuristic Sciences was conducted by Mr. Singh on 25.04.2019 for the students of grade IX. He talked about his latest book that covers different fields of science like robotics, aeronautics, pathology, astrobiology, space science, neuroscience, material science and paleontology. He briefly explained about Artificial Intelligence, Humanoids and Astrobiology. It was indeed an interactive and insightful session for all the students and teachers.

                                  On April 10, 2019, an orientation programme for Class XI was organised in the school auditorium.  The session began with the address of the  Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma emphasizing upon the need to be sincere and regular and also to choose the stream wisely. This was followed by a fruitful session conducted by Ms. Sana Kapur, Counsellor, on how to handle peer pressure.  Later, the renowned counsellor, Ms. Jyotsna Bhardwaj took the session wherein she oriented students towards various career choices related to different stream. The programme ended with an interactive session in which a lot of queries of the students were answered.  It was quite a useful and informative session.

                                    To familiarise the parents with the ethos, culture and philosophy of the school, VIS organised an Orientation Programme for the parents of Pre-School on 30 March 2019. The programme began with a welcome song presented by the tiny tots which was followed by a presentation on various skill areas by Hon’ble Director Ms. Mrinalini Kaura. 

                                    To give an insight into the teaching-learning methodology, various games were organised in which parents participated enthusiastically. A dance show was also put up by the kids emphasising the role of co-curricular activities in shaping up the personality of the Children.

                                    The programme ended with some important instructions given by the Headmistress, Ms. Poonam.
