    Time to Bid Adieu to…….

    The morning of 5th July commenced on a sad note as it was time to bid farewell to a colleague and a dear friend, Ms. Kavita Malik after having worked in the VIS fraternity for a span of 12 years. In an emotionally surcharged environment inside the School Auditorium, the school organized a farewell programme for her. The School Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura appreciated Mrs. Kavita for being  versatile, creative and a valuable asset to the school.  The teachers of Classes I and II sang a heart touching self-composed song in her honour. This was followed by a scintillating dance performance by teachers. The Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma, Headmistress, Primary Wing, Mrs. Anuradha Kumar, the Coordinator Mrs. Sheeba Wadhwa and her colleagues too shared their experiences and thoughts, and wished her the best for her future endeavours. Her presence will be deeply missed.

      Assembly on Afforestation

      The students of Class V HT conducted an assembly on ‘Afforestation’ which commenced with a thought provoking message “A nation that destroys its forests destroys itself.” The students compared the climate of the cities Singapore and Delhi to emphasize the effect of global warming on the climate of a place. The highlight of the assembly was a skit depicted by the students on the Çhipko Movement started by the villagers to prevent the felling of trees for industrialization. The assembly sent out the message loud and clear that “The biggest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

        Swimming Meet

        Swimming is a great aerobic workout. An inter-section Swimming Competition was held for the students of Classes I & II on 11 July ‘ 17 & 12 July ‘ 17. They enthusiastically participated in various events like free style, back stroke, breast stroke, coin collection etc. It was a refreshing event for the students. Their excitement to take a dip in the pool was worth watching. The winners will be awarded the certificates in different categories.

          World Scholar’s Cup – Hanoi Global Round at Vietnam

          The World Scholar’s Cup, 2017 Global Round took place in Hanoi, Vietnam from 25 June to 30 June 2017.  Out of fourteen qualified teams in the regional round of the event, five junior teams participated in the Global round.  The series of competitions were team debate, individual debate, collaborative writing, scholars’ challenge, scholars’ bowl including multimedia quizzing, Da-vinci scholars.The students displayed wonderful talents through splendid performance.

          Saanvi Puri (VIII) won three gold medals and four silver medals.  She also won the position of the school top scholar.  Hargun Johar, Paridhi Gupta, Amish Malhotra, Khushi Vij, Arsh Slach, Aditya Tandon, Anshuman, Aryan Luthra, Ishan Kalra, Chaitanya Rawal, Dhruv Gulati, Sarthak Luthra, Jai Sachdeva and Kavin Lamba also made the school proud by winning medals in various categories. Three VIS teams qualified for the finals to be held in Yale University.

          The students showcased a mesmerizing performance in Scholars Talent by performing Punjabi Folk dance. Forty countries participated with 3600 students across the world in the entire event.

            “Strengths Based Workshop”

            A workshop on “Strength based Psychology” was conducted by Mr. Manish Puri – a “Gallup” certified “Strengths coach” at VIS on 1 July 2017.

            Mr. Puri focused on 34 strengths which largely contribute towards shaping an individual’s personality.  Based on the philosophy of strengths, there are a few things which every person does uniquely and exceptionally better than others.  Leaning on them will set us up for greater success.

            He highlighted the importance of our dominant strengths and their leveraging to make the best use of them in making progress.  Also he focused on how our lesser strengths can be managed and not considered as our weaknesses.

            Pinpointing the four domains of strength - Executing, Influencing, Relationship building and Strategic thinking, he added that it helps individuals and teams see a bigger picture in accomplishing their goals.

            The enriching matter and excellent communication of the speaker made the workshop very interesting and captivating.

              Orientation Programme for Class IX Parents

              An Orientation was conducted by the School Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura, for the parents of class IX on 1 July 2017.  The main aim of the workshop was to familiarize the parents with the board pattern.  She spoke about the previous  CCE pattern, its merits and demerits and also the re-introduction of the Boards.  She further emphasized on the marks bifurcation for theory paper and internal assessment in the board exam.  The criteria for internal assessment was also explained.  It was a very informative workshop which left parents thoroughly enriched and empowered to guide their wards to face the challenges of Board Exam.
