    The School Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura conducted an Orientation for the parents of class X on 20 May 2017.  The main aim of the workshop was to familiarize the parents with the board pattern.  She spoke about the features of the System of Evaluation board exam in contrast to the CCE pattern.  Director Ma’am further emphasized on the marks bifurcation for theory paper and internal assessment in the board exam.  The criteria for internal assessment was explained.  It was a very informative workshop which left parents feeling very empowered to guide their wards to face the challenges of Board Exam.

      A motivational workshop was conducted for class X students on 24 May 2017.  The students enjoyed the session very much as the resource person – Kisnaa brought forth some of the actual problems faced by the students in their lives.  The value of remaining focused in one’s life was well established by Kisnaa through a movie clipping and wide variety of examples.  He shared how his sessions enlighten the students by providing practical solution to every problem through developing self-belief, self-motivation, self-confidence & self-satisfaction.

        LEARNING BEYOND BOUNDARIES!!!

        On 16 May 2017, VIS students of class VIII - XII had a Skype session (virtual video call) with Mr. Mike Dunbar, a journalist based in California, USA with over 40 years of experience. The session commenced with an invigorating talk by Mike Dunbar on ‘Fake News and its influence on the World’. He told the students that real news only informs the facts but fake news plays with the people’s emotions and tries to influence their outlook. He spoke at length about the life of journalists all over the world, some of them even needing bodyguards because they spoke the truth and were threatened because of it. He also advised students that journalists may not earn huge money but they could make a difference in society and have a satisfying life. The session undoubtedly was an enriching experience for all the students and their active participation very clearly depicted their enthusiasm.

            Leadership is not about a title or designation, it’s about the impact, influence and inspiration.  With this motto, Investiture Ceremony was organised on 19 May 2017 to form the STUDENT COUNCIL for the session 2017-18.  The promising members of all the five houses Value, Integrity, Strength, Truth and Valour took a pledge to uphold the school’s ethics and philosophy.  Dr. Manisha Sharma, Vice Principal & Ms. Meenakshi Malhotra, Head Mistress-Middle Wing and Senior Wing Coordinators Ms. Ruchika Chaudhary and Ms. Arutchudar conferred the badges to the proud members of the Student Council.

              The Investiture Ceremony of the Middle Wing of Venkateshwar International School, Sector -10, Dwarka was organised on 18 May 2017, wherein the newly selected student executives vowed to abide by the creed of their alma mater and fulfill their duties according to their respective portfolios.  The young council members received their badges from the respected Vice Principal and Headmistress of the school.  The newly constituted Student Council consisted of the Prefects, House Captains, Sports Captains, Cultural and Literary Captains.

                Road Safety

                A workshop was conducted on ‘Road Safety’ by Chevrolet Company in our school for classes II and III. Children were taught about various rules related to road safety.  They were shown how to sit in a car safely, not to disturb parents while driving.  Children below 12 years of age should not sit near the driver’s seat.  Always use a child car seat to travel in a car.  They played a song too on ‘Road Safety’ and children waved their hands.  They also gave ninja badges to each and every child.

                  Legal Literacy Programme in VIS

                  Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) organised a Legal Literacy Programme to observe “Global Road Safety Week” at VIS for the students of class X on 12 May 2017.  Mr. Kuldeep Nain (Legal Aid Counsellor, South West Delhi) and Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Traffic Police Inspectors were accorded a warm welcome by the school Vice Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Manisha Sharma. Mr. Kumar addressed the students and apprised them about the traffic rules and traffic signals.

                  The Legal Aid Counsel along with the Traffic Official had a healthy interaction with the students to promote good traffic sense and road safety norms.  They were also told how to counsel the road users found indulging in common road violations such as under age driving, triple riding, riding two-wheeler without helmet, red light jumping, etc.  The workshop was very informative and increased the knowledge of students.  The guest was thanked for his endeavour with a token of gratitude.

                    Leadership Camp - Primary Wing

                    With this goal in mind the students of Class V participated enthusiastically in the Leadership Camp held on 6 May, 2017 in the school premises.

                    The day started with invoking the blessings of the almighty. Then the students got geared up for the ice breaking games. The importance of teamwork was clearly reflected in these activities. Next in line was the much awaited activity in which the students participated with great zeal-‘The Treasure Hunt’. Now it was the time for the quest for knowledge, ’The G.K Quiz’ where the students were given a questionnaire. This was followed by the activity ‘Cooking without Fire’, where in the students prepared delicious snacks, desserts and drinks. Students also showcased their creativity by creating a theme like women empowerment, save environment etc. on the wall using different waste materials.

                    After a heart filling lunch the students created their own TV Channel and hosted the show. It was a fun filled activity which lent a creative bent to their imagination. The day ended with a relaxing meditation session. 

                    Headmistress Primary Wing, Mrs. Anuradha Kumar motivated the students with aspiring words and enlightened them about the role of a leader.

                      PRAYAAS – AN ENDEAVOUR

                      Prayaas- A rainbow of expressions, an endeavour to experience the magical colours of the rainbow through the medium of dance, drama ,music, art and craft was held in VIS on 6th May 2017. Mr.Timothy Kendall, Counsellor  (Economics) from the Australian High Commission was the Guest of Honour.  The students made various craft items from waste material in keeping with the dictum of reduce, reuse and recycle which won the heart of every visitor.  Moreover the students performed various dance forms like Samba, Shiv Tandav, Hip Hop, Marathi Folk Dance, Jazz, Meera bhakti, Flamenco and Peace dance, each associated with one or the other colour of the VIBGYOR. A Sarv Dharma Prarthna Nukkad Natak and instrumental number enthralled the audience. Besides, there was a reading corner to promote reading through books.  The old readable books were covered attractively and discarded books were transformed into Book Lamp, Book Plant, Hangings and Book Marks.  A game zone, food corner and the selfie corner also was highly applauded. In his speech, the Chief Guest expressed his happiness and appreciated the talented minds behind this endeavour. The event was a grand success!

                        An Inter-House English Debate Competition was held on 5 May 2017 for classes IX-X in the auditorium.  The topic for the debate was “Parents of the under aged drivers are responsible for the deaths they cause.”  All the speakers from different houses spoke very well and put forth their viewpoints confidently.

                          Students of VIS win First Prize!!

                          VIS participated in Odyssey 2017, an interschool computer symposium, held at Modern Convent Public School, Dwarka on 28 April 2017. Garvita Jain and Ambuj Chauhan (Class XII) bagged the first prize in the event ITrix, a programming event. The programming competition consisted of two rounds- surprise and C++ programming. The surprise round was further divided into two - a quiz and an auction round. It was a great experience and a fun-filled event.

                              VIS hosted the second edition of the Model United Nations Conference on 28 & 29 April with the theme “Veritas Vos Liberabit……the truth shall make you free.’  The conference brought together over 300 delegates from 15 different prestigious schools of our country who interacted with one another, sharpening their oratory and communication skills.

                              The second edition of MUN provided a dynamic platform to the students required today to become better scholars, thinkers and responsible global citizens.  The delegates presented solutions to various global problems prevalent today.  The issues ranged from the South China Sea Dispute to Setting up minimum benchmarks to be a parliamentarian. The MUN also had a simulation of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea which was a first in the entire Delhi MUN Circuit.


                              The highlights of the conference were the opening and closing ceremonies during which the distinguished delegates got an opportunity to hear inspiring words from the honourable Director, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura who was also the Chief Guest of the event and the Vice Principal, Dr. Manisha Sharma who enthused the delegates and boosted their morale.

                               

                              VISMUN has been the culmination of relentless efforts, under the patronage and guidance of the school Director & Founder Principal, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura and the MUN Co-ordinator, Ms.Nishu Rathi.  With VISMUN 2017, VIS has definitely taken a big leap in the pursuit of achieving more milestones.

                               

                              The MUN concluded with a felicitation ceremony in which the delegates who came up with the most logical solutions were felicitated by our honorable Chief Guest, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura. The entire secretariat was also awarded for their hard work and determination to pull this conference off. The auditorium reverberated with applause as the Secretary General, Aniket Srikumar banged the gavel to officially declare the conference closed.

                                Aqua foundation is a non- government organization associated with the ministry of earth sciences and celebrates the earth day on 22 April every year. As a part of it, various activities were conducted in many schools in Delhi and NCR. This year, Venkateshwar International School, Dwarka also took active participation in celebrating Earth Day. Various activities were conducted like slogan writing, poster making and painting competition for different classes (classes I – XI).

                                 An Award ceremony was held on April 22, 2017 at the premises of – ‘Ryan International School’, Sector – 40, Gurgaon where students of our school won laurels by receiving trophies and certificates in various categories.
