It is quite rightly said “Personality has the power to uplift, power to depress, power to curse and power to bless.”  With an attempt to go beyond the pen and paper and tell students about personality development as well as core values, Ms. Shoma Guha, a soft skill trainer from NIE conducted a very interactive workshop for the students of classes VI and VII in the school auditorium on 2nd August 2016.
The first session was conducted for the Sixth-standard students and emphasized on the core values a person should possess.  It was an interactive session and the students learnt values through stories and presentations.  They learnt why it is necessary to have a positive attitude towards all the things in life.
Values give us direction and determination.  The second session was conducted for the seventh-standard students which was an approach to personality development.  They were told that all humans have different characteristics and one needs to pay attention to his/her real qualities.  Working upon one’s inner self is a vital aspect of personality development.  The sessions, undoubtedly were an enriching experience for all the students and their active participation very clearly depicted their enthusiasm.

With a view of sharing best practices between schools and to enrich them  with strategies for developing language skills in primary school students, the Director and Founder Principal of Venkateshwar International School, Mrs. Mrinalini Kaura conducted a  workshop under the umbrella of Chintan, for the Headmistresses and teachers of prestigious schools of Delhi on 6 August, 2016.  The workshop saw spirited participation from more than 100 teachers across Delhi and from Amritsar and Alwar as well.

The need and importance for spending ample time on Listening and Speaking Skills was emphasized through activities and games, as these two skills are generally neglected in class rooms. The message that Reading and Writing Skills should follow the above two fundamental skills was loud and clear.

The workshop was effective, interesting and stimulating and had the audience glued to their seats and asking for more.

A workshop on ‘The Challenges faced by the parents of Teenagers’ was organised on 30th July, 2016 for the parents of the school.  Dr. (Brig.) K.S. Rana, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Neurology at Venkateshwar Hospital, Dwarka apprised the audience about the emotional challenges that the teenage can pose for all concerned.  He shared ways to bridge the gap between parents and children, usually arising due to rapid physical development and deep psychological changes occurring in the latter.  Dr. Rana stressed upon the need to be flexible while dealing with problems such as eating disorders, feeling ill, lacking confidence and overconcern with appearance.  This appeal was to let the child grow like a tree but with stronger roots as he/she is our best achievement.  The informative session ended with a question – answer round wherein parents were urged to be perfect role models and avoid conflicts with children.
