Joy of celebration filled the air during the special assembly for Christmas with the active participation of students from Senior Wing, Middle Wing and Primary Wing.  Dances, Orchestra and skit were in praise of the jubilation of the season. Interspersed in the carnival was the prize distribution event. Awards were presented by Chairman Sir and Director Ma’am to felicitate the achievers in International, National and State Level events of sports along with academic achiever and literature, cultural activities.

    REPORT ON THE FINAL ROUND OF THE WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP 2017

    The following students of Venkateshwar International School, Dwarka ( khushi Vij,  Paridhi Gupta, Amisha Malhotra, Hargun Singh Johar, Anshuman Gill and Arsh Slach) qualified to participate in a week’s event titled The Tournament of Champions of the World Scholar’s Cup 2017 held in Yale University, New Haven, USA, from one regional round in India  and one global round conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam in June , 2017.

    The different rounds of events  included The  Team Debate, Scholar Challenge, The Scholar’s Bowl  and the Collaborative Writing. The students also mesmerized the audience by showcasing  a spectacular Bhangra Dance recital. The students from different schools of 53 countries of the world participated in the said event.The students also got the opportunity to participate in the cross country cultural  fair and the Scholar’s Ball in the Omni Hotel of New Haven , USA.

    The competition was followed  with an educational tour of Harvard University and MIT and also Boston city .After the event got over the students were taken for a city tour of New York and New Jersey.

    The students attended the event with Ms Chirasree Dasgupta as the accompanying teacher who also presided the event as one of the registered  adjudicators.  The students all over won 6 gold medals and 4 Silver medals along with Merit certificates. Paridhi Gupta bagged 4 medals ( 2 golds and 2 silvers) and was adjudged as the top scholar of VIS in the event.Arsh Slach won one gold and one silver medal, Hargun Singh bagged one gold, Khushi Vij and Anshuman bagged one gold each followed by one silver bagged by Amisha Malhotra.

      Class XI Humanities students travelled to Pune, Maharashtra for their first virtual field trip on 12 December 2017! The session was conducted by Ranjitsinh Disale, another MIE Expert who gave an insight into the functioning of handlooms and powerlooms!! Mr. Disale explained the different techniques and processes which are a part of the Indian Textile Industry like spinning, weaving and dyeing. Students were greatly excited when he wove different threads together on a weaving machine. He also explained the importance of Charkha in our history as it was used by Gandhiji for spinning thread. The session concluded with the students questioning him on various processes, condition of textile industry in terms of the economic growth and also about the work life of the people involved in this sector.

        VIS organizes ‘Hour of Code’

        The Hour of Code was designed by Computer Science Education Week Advisory and Review Committee. It started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of Computer Science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate Computer Science, starting with 1-hour coding activities. VIS students celebrated a week long ‘Hour of Code’ from 10-14 December, 2017. Students of class 6-8 and 11 studied various tutorials and completed numerous levels of programming in Minecraft. On successful culmination of all activities, they also received a certificate! The event was a huge success due to the broad participation.

          Skype session on Indian Cuisines

          Class XI Home Science students had an interesting Skype session with Ms. Duhita Parmar from Ghaziabad on Indian Cuisines on 7 December 2017. She explained that lots of Indian cuisines like Idlis, kidney beans, chickpeas and biryani are both delicious and very nutritive as they are whole foods and contain all nutrients. Students also learnt how to convert junk and unhealthy food into a healthy food by adding cottage cheese or paste of nuts etc.
          Overall it was a good interactive session and an opportunity for students to extend what they learnt in class.

            Psychology Workshop

            Alex Snee, a representative of University of Roehampton, UK delivered a Psychology workshop in our school for Grade 11 students.

            The title of the talk was "Are humans inherently prone to Evil?" with an exploration of whether people’s behavior is influenced by nature or individual/societal circumstance especially in regards to obedience.

              Conserve My Planet Programme

              Conserve my planet programme, a joint initiative of Schneider Electric foundation and Sharp NGO aimed to motivate young minds to conserve natural resources.  Under this programme green championship was conducted at VIS on December 7, 2017 wherein selected teams from different school across the city took part.  Our school bagged the following awards and titles:

              1.      1. Energy Star School of the year.

              2.     2.  Best Teacher Coordinator or Team Award.

              3.      3. Best Green Artist Award by Rhea Singhal and Ishani Moitra of VII Daisydale.

              4.      4. City Green Championship of the year award by Aaryan Sahni of VII Springdale.

                      The primary foyer of the school resonated with the boundless energy of the students of Classes I and II who walked the ramp adorning bright, flamboyant and innovative hats, exhibiting their creative streak as part of the ‘Hat Parade’ activity. The colourful hats, in all shapes and sizes, looked mesmerizing as they showcased various themes and conveyed important messages like Save Water, Go Green, Wild Life Conversation, famous personalities, cartoon characters, garden scenes, solar system etc. were also portrayed.  This aesthetic display of creativity was appreciated and applauded by all.

                            What better way to encourage reading for pleasure in the school than meeting an author, illustrator, poet or story teller in real life and hearing them convey their passion for their work. Keeping this in mind, the school organized an Author’s Meet for the students of Class V where they invited the author of the famous Amma Series, Mrs. Bhagti Mathur to school on 24th November 2017.  She has authored picture books about festivals and mythology. She introduced the children to different religions and faiths through their important places of worship, primarily focusing on her two books –
